Hi peeps
I have had a bit of a mishap with mt emachine 625 lappie.
I knocked it of a worksurface onto the floor.
now it has gone very dark on the screen u can just about see the screen, the screen has not cracked as far as i can see, i have plugged it into a moniter to see if any graphic settings had change due to the fall but all seems ok. have i naffed it, it boots into windows ok and runs fin except for the very dark screen. any advice would be great.
thanks fungus

If a monitor works OK, then suggests the LCD is dead - replacements are available for around £65-85.

Inverter for the display back light has been damaged or a plug has come loose.
The inverter is usually under the frame surrounding the display. It's a small pcb about 75mm x 12mm.
Don't go poking around or touching it when the computer is on as there are very high voltages involved.
Could also be the back light itself behind the display. It's a fragile glass tube.

"except for the very dark screen"

If your lucky, a loose connection
if not then failed inverter or broken backlight

ok worth a try.
