Keyboard symbols on a laptop.

  jack 11:58 28 Aug 2009

An Evesham badged laptop that has been out of use for a while had recently been put into service.
The Owner however has found that certain characters have in addition to the normal letter have also a digit in a square. say k with a figure 4 or a j with a fig 5
When he is typing and using those keys the digit displays.
So far none of the various control keys and combinations thereof have managed to revert it to a normal keyboard.
Any suggestions please

Turn off NumLock.

No Numeric pad- therefore as far as he can see no Numlock.
I have advised him to check the various blue 'key edge' symbols

That's why he needs to turn of NumLock, some of the letter keys alternate as the number pad when it's on.

It may well be a function key.
