Kernell32.dll error message when shutting down

  ratters 18:51 16 Sep 2003

After I have been on the internet and then start to close down my system the following error message appears:
VSMON has caused an error in KERNELL32.DLL
This message will not close so I then have to use the restart button to reboot. I can then shut down as normal. This means that the error occurs only when I have connected to the internet.
I have found out that VSMON is something to do with ZoneAlarm so I have de and reinstalled ZoneAlarm which hasn't solved the problem.
Should I do something to KERNELL32.DLL?
The version of ZA is the free one.
I am running Windows ME.
Any advice will be most gratefully received.

Thanks mark500 - it seems to me after reading all that (I have done all the stuff suggested) as if the only answer will be to do a reformat and full windows reinstall.
If anyone else has any suggestions I would be most grateful because I won't have time to do the reinstall for a few days yet.
Thanks again
