Keep losing the BB connection

  Ancient Learner 16:58 27 Apr 2005

This is a recent development of about the last 2 weeks.

I sometimes get a message, (three times today,) which is only on for a few seconds, telling me that the 'area network is unplugged'. Then I can't use the Internet for a while until it seems to recover itself. This can happen whether I am on the Internet, such as here, at the time or not. Other days it all works without a hitch

Also, most times, after I have left the PC for a while, and the screen saver is on, when I return and touch a key or mouse, everything starts just fine and all the programmes work, except my connection. I have found that I get the connection back if I do a restart.

Unfortunately I have no idea as to where to look.

Anyone please.

You will have checked all the cables and plugs - I'm sure so it must be network card or modem (or router depending on setup). Because of screensaver issue I would start by checking device manager for yellow symbols (right click my computer/properties/hardware/device manager and check network adapters)and then by trying to find an updated driver for the network card (or reinstalling it.

I got AOL few months ago and within the first few weeks it started saying. "The local area connection cable is unplugged". I got on the phone to AOL and they told me first to check all the cables, which i did and they were fine and of that didn't work, reinstall the BT Voyager modem. So i did that and everything is fine now. Hope this helps. Alex

Thanks for the reply.

There are no yellow symbols showing.

The device manager shows 2 items at this point,

1394 Net adapter

Marvwell Yuken 88E8001/8003/8010PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

I uae a Netgear Firewall/Router.

The two items in the device manager came with the PC and the router was installed shortly afterwards by a specialist. It's all been working OK for many months. I admit that it's all way above my head though.

So !?

It seems that the little chapess who resides in my PC has decided, that because I am trying to correct his ways of cutting off the connection, to relent. It is now behaving itself. I've been getting some v. v. slow speads lately so perhaps that has been the cause!

Thanks again.
