MS Windows updates onto a CD for use at a later date etc.

How do you get the Microsoft Windows update onto a CD and can you avoid installing them onto your machine at the same time ?

If it is possible, can someone please give a step by step instruction. (Using XP, Nero Xpress)

Naturally for post-XP Update Rollup 1 updates, you can still follow Terrahawk's link to Powerless's helpful instructions on using Windows Update Catalogue. This way, you can install the updates whenever you like by double clicking the downloaded .exe files.

Personally I use the Windows Update site to scan for applicable updates, click the individual "Read More" links which provide separate links to the downloads, and download from there with a download manager (which is usually faster, and does not come with the complicated folder structure saved by Windows Update Catalogue).
