Kaspersky is using 99% of CPU

Kaspersky is showing around 99% CPU usage in Task Manager and it appears to be stopping Outlook (2003) from opening. Also the fan (Acer Laptop running XP Home) is running hard.

Can anyone advise please?

stop it running and see if everything else is ok if so uninstall it and either install it fresh or get another prog

Sorry I should have said to check to see if it is running a scan at start up.If so stop automatic scan. And scan manually. If CPU is running at 99% all the time you are probably better removing it unless someone can come up with a better solution.

Mine uses hardly anything when it's idling, as buteman says check it's not scanning

Also have you any other Antispyware programs running,

What version of Kaspersky do you have,

You can upgrade to 2009 for free,

click here the latest version seems a lot better on resources
