K7S8X AMD2500XP+1.8ghz RAM problem

Hi i got a weird problem with my pc i currently have 512mb RAM DDR333 installed and i installed another 256MB DDR333 and my pc loads up fine but after 2-3mins it restarts or during a game crashes and when i remove the 256 RAM the pc works fine i would really like it to work need MORE RAM plz help guys my specs are:

ATX 450w powersupply
K7S8X motherboard
AMD 2500xp+ ~1.8 GHZ
512mb RAM DDR333 PC2700
Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 256mb AGP 8x GFX card
DVD rom drive 16x
37.2GB hard drive

The RAM i bought to add in was MemmoryMAXX 256mb DDR333 PC2700 help would be appreciated thx.

Some motherboards are tetchy about matching and placing position for RAM.
Should be worth a careful look in the manual.
If the manual is a bit unforthcoming, have a look in Google with the board's number.(K7S8X)

Sounds like the 256M RAM is a bit dodgy, or as Diemess says, just has a compatibility problem. Download and run MemTest click here. A word of warning, I had a stick of 256M RAM kindly donated by a friend, it ran ok for a couple of months before it corrupted my hard drive in such a way that I had to reformat the drive as slave in another computer before I could reinstall Windows in mine.

Thanks for your reply guys but how im i ment to run the mem test on the 256ram wen it restarts after 2 mins ps the 256m ram is brand spanking new.

Tricky. I think the only sensible option is to return the memory as faulty. You could try using the 256M on it's own just to see if it works, but you will be risking corrupting the data on your hard drive.
