joining two pcs

where can I buy a long network cable to connect two machines .and also is there a recommended lenght to use. or would there be a deteriation in signal strenght.or is there a joining piece .or do I need to buy another router for joining up leads

To buy a ready made extra long cable, your best plan is to go to a local shop and ask them to make you one.

Lengths up to 100 metres are the specification for standard cat5 cables.

PS - if you're joining two systems directly, you need a Crossover cable.
