i have downloaded a cpy of linspire which is an iso but i cannot get to work as a boot disk any idea

I take it you have burnt it to CD as an Image?

Using Nero you should click Recorder...Burn Image and go from there.

Did you just burn the file to a Cd or did you burn it as an Image?

thats the bit i'm having problems with i have an oem ver of nero and i'm confused how it works

Open Nero.

From the first menu choose Disc Image (at the bottom) then find the ISO and follow from there.

I use this to burn ISO files.Its really easy,just launch it and up comes a box with 3 choices.Click the Burn ISO button,browse to the ISO file and off it goes.Its freeware,and doesn't conflict with Nero, here
