Start PC. Get log in screen. Choice of 5 users.
Choose one. Users desktop then starts up but suddenly hangs/freezes.
Sometimes its just the wallpaper & no desktop icons, other times its just the Start/Toolbar visable & nothing else & then hang.PC not reacting to anything at all. Wait, but nothing!
CTRL/ALT/DEL for restart sometimes works, other times not.
But many times everything is ok!!!
Same for all users.
Win Me Op system.Anyone got any thoughts?

First run a Scandisk to check for errors (use the "Automatically fix errors" option). If no better, press Start, select Run, type msconfig into the box and press Okay. You can choose the Selective Startup button and disable the options then listed one at a time to see if any of them clear the fault (though certain features will not then load so you need to investigate further). Or you can click on the Startup tab and disable items one by one to try and find the one that is causing a problem. It's a time consuming job because of all the trial and error rebooting but if it tracks down your problem it's worth it. Also worth mentioning is to look in your Startup folder for items like the Iomega Watch facility for zip drives, which sometimes cause such problems - press your Windows key, go to Programs, then Startup to get a flyout tab that lists such items. Good luck. LC
