hi i have an iomega 1tb portable hardrive, it has stopped conecting to my pc i have taken it back to staples where i bought it and the cant reconnect it either.... i have heard you can take it out of its shell and connect a wire to the hardrive its self and take all your data off it....can anybody send me instructions on how to do this or any other ways of retrieving my data or fixing the hardrive...many thanks

With my Iomega drive I took it out of the case and put it into my PC as a second drive. It's was just a standard SATA drive in there so if you have a free SATA connection on the motherboard you will just need a cable to connect it and a spare power connector.

Or you could do what I did.

Bought an IDE-SATA converter + power cables, took my Tower panel off and then realised I had two spare SATA ports all along. Doh.

Oh well. It was cheap and sits in the useful junk drawer.

Assumes your drive enclosure electronics are faulty, not the hdd inside of course.
