Invalid Control CTF file on AVG Free

  Stephanie 09:17 09 Dec 2008

Has anyone else had this message today or yesterday when trying to update AVG 8 free version?

Should I just wait for AVG to sort it, or could the problem be at my end?

Hi Stephanie,

I had this problem and it's very easy to fix.

You just need to delete any files ending in .ctf from the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg8\update\download Do not delete any of the .bin files though.

Once you have done this try running AVG update again and it will work.

Run this script and all will be fine Steph click here

Its been a common bug for a while now,the script saves you carrying out a manual removal and error free way of resolving the issue.

Sorry Steph,for some reason the script is no longer availible;
Manual removal as above by Leepaci

You need to delete the CTF temp files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg8\update\download.... Dont delete all the .bin files in there unless you want to re-run all updates since your original installation. Only delete the avginfo files that end with .ctf....

Did that. All OK now. Many thanks to you both

Having same trouble on two computers. Checked in directories and I have no ctf files at all!! Have deleted the temporary files as suggested under AVG Tools. So is my only option to reinstall the program?
