Intrusive adverts in Youtube playlists

I was watching a playlist (while ironing ugh) and, before each clip played, there was an advert. True, I could dismiss the advert after being forced to watch some of it but it meant leaving off what I was doing.

Where do these adverts come from? Is it a Youtube feature, are they embedded in the playlist by the person who uploaded it, are they from the browser or is it from somewhere else?

More to the point, can I disable them?

I think they are a money maker for the person who uploaded the clips.
