Internet download Transfer Rate

I'm on cable broadband from NTL. Connection speed is 10Mbps. Whenever I download video files from the internet, the transfer rate is usually around 125kb/sec, and a 120Mb file takes about 20mins to download. This seems very slow to me, and would expect files to download faster. Do you think it's correct?

That's about on the button for top 1MB download speeds.

If you have a basic broadband modem, top speed handling capability is 8MB.

Not sure about cable types though.

At the end of the day, download speeds often depend on the server providing them, how many other people are downloading that file as well as your own b'band connection. You should not always expect to download at the speed your provider says is the download speed. If you want to check the nominal download speed of your connection, there are a number of speed-checkers that you can find with google
