Internet connection defaults to dial-up

  chelseafan 20:57 20 Aug 2007

For some time now various programs that automatically connect to the internet (for eg WMP) try to do so via a dial-up connection. Obviously this doesn't connect since i have a broadband connection.
Any idea how i can prevent this?

Go to Control Panel > Internet options > Connections and check the option 'Never dial a connection'

may be wrong but if beeuuem's suggestion dosen't work try doing a virus/spyware scan as it may be a rouge dialer.

"it may be a rouge dialer".

Indeed it may be, but if chelseafan is using BB and DOESN'T have a dial-up modem connected, that rogue dialler won't be able to dial out.

Nevertheless, a scan with click here may be worthwhile

Thanks all for you suggestions but beeuuem's appears to have solved it. I'm just not sure that i haven't tried that previously and for some reason it switched back to "always dial my ....". I've run various virus spyware scans but nothing has been picked up.

i know it can't dial out ( oh the beauty of broadband) but it still needs removing.
