Intel P4 Operating Temperature

Anyone got any advice on optimum P4 operating temperatures?

I have a 3.4 GHz P4 that regularly gets up to 50-60 deg C with my PC not doing too much hard work (i.e.just office applications on the go). The readings I am taking are from the 'Intel Active Monitor' application, and are the 'Processor Zone' reading.

Once I have a game (e.g. doom, half life2) working, temp is up near operating limit (70 degC) and have had a few crashes as a result.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think p4,s auto slow down when they get too hot, you can fit better cooling, that may help.

That's why they decided not to make a P4 4Ghz

If you have the right intel board you can use this and speed the fans up and see if the temp cools down
