Installing Windows OEM

I have been asked to install windows on someone's laptop

could i change the licence key to the one on the bottom of his computer

In theory, you should be able to as that key is specific to that laptop. I tried this with friends laptop a couple of years ago. His hard drive had died, and the recovery partition was lost, so he got recovery disks from the manufacturer. The only problem was that it wouldn't activate with the key on the laptop, so I phoned Microsoft, who gave me another key, which worked.

Yes you can change it to the OEM version that he has on the side of the computer as long as it is the same version.

You can do this if the oem CD is not linked to another Computer, i.e i as to be a Microsoft oem disc not a manufacturers CD
