I ordered a new computer and mistankely tried to install Windows XP over the already existing Windows XP, as i thought the disc supplied was an update rather than the actual programme. From then on the computer would crash on trying to install software or drivers. I tried to reboot windows XP from the disc but the same would happen. In fact it would crash when rebooting. Would the system be permanently corrupted? I am getting a replacement, but just wondered if there was something else i could have done.
I didnt note the error message and i have now had the computer picked up by the supplier. From what i can remember, it said Something like, if this is the first time this error message has appeared then just restart your computer, if however this message keeps appearing, go into safe mode in the bios and delete cache and something about checking shadowing. Not sure about that. Also it would dump memory to disk and count into the hundreds. Also XP would want to send a critical error report. Sorry, i should have noted the message down.
