I am considering installing a new mother board in my 1997 Gateway 266MHz Pentium II Win98 computer. Is there a limit to the speed of processor I fit.I am thinking particulary of the power supply, general internal wiring, etc.
new motherboard = whatever cpu the motherboard specs can handle.the box or online info will tell you which type its designed for ie/AMD or INTEL and the maximum speed and fsb, memory etc.buy at least 350w-400w psu
click heresome good videos for info on all sorts of upgrades, even installing a new mobo.
The main limit will be 'will the motherboard fit in the case'.. Select your CPU then your motherboard etc to suit... The sky's your limit (and cost)Any thing else can be changed, Power supply will probabley need to be 400W+
As R4 says you need to make sure the M/B fits the case you have, but an alternative is click here and click on Bundles.
That link you gave above is excellent - thanks. No one should have any problems building from scratch. Well, let's hope so!A.
being somone who likes to take things apart and play with them :-) i found it helpful myself.glad you found it useful.
