Install OS on USB pen drive?

Hi guys, not a problem, more of a curisoity

I've got a 1GB USB pen drive, and a computer that is capiable of botting from a USB device.

I was wondering if it is possible to install an OS on it (probably 98 or 2000) and have my computer boot from it.

Install an OS on a pen drive?
Win 98SE = No, That OS requires a Fixed Disk drive and C: at that.
Win 2000 = Honestly don't know, but unlikely.

Personal experience of 2K would suggest it would be a bare OS with 1 Gb, and no use at all except for getting at another corrupt system and salvaging something?

I've read that flash memory can't handle lots of file writes which are required for an OS. After saying that I remember Flecc saying that he planned to have a go at it with his cut down version of Win98.

Yeah that was the idea, then if someone screws up their system, then would make it easy to recover.
