In Win ME I got rid of this file by logging on,creating a new account called no index, logging on and off a couple of times and that was that.No ever expanding index file.
Can this be done with XP Home and if so how? Don.

Clean up seems to work very well and quickly but the 'Secure Clean' scanner finds them all after Clean up.Mostly as discarded file fragments in free space. Also as you say the file is re-created. With win ME,since 'no index' never surfed the web the index dat file remained empty however much time I spent surfing. Unfortunately although the secure clean scanner finds them all it seems unable to clean them. It's a shame we can't do the same in xp.Don
