Incorrect user name to log on to Laptop

We have recently purchased a new Laptop (we are a community group).

In the initial set up stage we have managed to create a username but are unable to recall it.

We know roughly what it is but are obviously not spot although we have managed to log in on two occassions - but had tried so many times we still don't know what we did differently.

It does give an opportunity to change password using 'disk created' for that purpose. We did not get that far into the set up stage though.

So, we have now have a Laptop, but cannot get off first base. Help anyone?

Boot to Safe Mode, enter the Administrator's account, which usually has no password, unless you created one. Then from the Admin account, go to Control Panel > User Accounts and delete the password on the problem account. Then reboot the laptop and it should load Windows without asking for a password.

Try starting in Safe mode, then go to User Accounts where you could create a new account or perhaps 'find' the original account name.

Thanks for replies.

Another group member currently has the laptop, so I shall print off your suggestions and we shall give it a go when we meet up tomorrow.

There is now hope!

Thank you,
