The Importance of Being Proof Read

I've just been revising our T&C. I'm glad that I caught this typo before uploading:

"Please note that gods made to special order are exempt ....."

  Forum Editor 17:57 04 Feb 2005

your post reminds me of that series of letters Peter Ustinov exchanged with the manageress of a Swiss hotel he was thinking of using. She replied to one of his enquiries about facilities with the assurance that "I am good in bed and not bad in bath".

Anyone who writes to deadlines much knows how easy it is to become so focused on getting the text on the page that you can overlook the most obvious of clangers. Newspaper journalists seem especially vulnerable - the Daily Mail recently published this:-

'A transplant surgeon has called for a ban on "kidneys-for-ale" operations'

  Handy Spinner 17:59 04 Feb 2005

but if it's on the computer, is this a case of deus ex machina?

Nice headline

FE - "Kidneys-for-ale". That really is a *most* unfortunate (but funny) mistake.

Handy Spinner - "deus ex machina". Good to see that we have such erudite members on here :-)

NickyK - well I was most Earnest about it!
