Import rules

  Terry Brown 21:15 07 Nov 2007

I have just re-built my computer, and I need to import the Outlook Express rules. I exported them using outlook to a file called USTM2.UNC however I cannot find a way to import that file into Outlook Express. I tried the Files and Settings wizard but as I only want to import one file, it does not seem to work, either all or none.
Any suggestions please.

If so, try this: Open Notepad and select 'Open' from the file menu.

Locate and open the "Mail Rules.reg" file that contains your backed up rules.

Highlight the string contained inside the brackets ("{}") that follows "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\" in the second line. Make sure you highlight the string including the brackets.

Press Ctrl-C.

Select 'Replace' from the Edit menu.

Click in the 'Find what' entry field and press Ctrl-V.

Go to the Outlook Express settings in the Windows registry.

Click on the Identities key in the tree in the left pane.

Double-click on Default User ID in the right pane.

Press Ctrl-C.

Press Esc.

Go back to Notepad.

Click in the 'Replace with' entry field.

Press Ctrl-V.

Click 'Replace All'.

Press Esc.
Close Notepad, saving the changes you've made to the file.

Double-click on "Mail Rules.reg" in Windows Explorer.

Click 'Yes'.

As always, you edit the registry at your own risk, and before you start it's adviseable to back up the registry to your desktop, so you can restore it if by chance something goes wrong.
