IE8 Smartscreen Filter

  birdface 10:41 26 Jul 2010

Just had a look at PCA News and was reading about the smart screen filter.
I was just wondering if it was something new so checked under Tools and there it was.
For all of the time I have used IE8 I never really noticed it before.
It was switched off so now have it switched on.
Anyone else like me and have not used it before.

Has it helped anyone on here and does it just give you a warning of a bad site.

Just another question does it work automatically or do you have to check on every website that you think maybe infected.

It comes under "Safety" in my IE8, and as far as I know it is automatic for each website. However you can have a website checked, it sends a report to Microsoft or alternately you can report a bad website.

I don't think it's automatic.
I believe you have to check manually.

Ok thanks for the advice.
Just checked on a bad site warning from WOT.
And nothing.
So not sure what to expect.
Will it not open a bad website.
I did notice that there seemed to be less warnings signs from Wot when browsing.
Never mid I will keep it switched on and see if I notice any difference.

It's automatic as I have occasionally had a "windows" message like this.

If you click the "safety" tab on IE8 and hover on smartscreen filter you will see options.

It's worth knowing as if ever your AV pops a warning up you can go to this to report that particular site.

Yes not sure how it actually works.
Went to a few bad sites with WOT warnings and checked the web sites using smart screen Filter.
But nothing shows.
So not sure what to expect.

Thanks for that it helps a lot.
Now I know what to expect.

Make a download of something and look in the left hand corner of the save box, it checks all your downloads and tells you if they are safe or not..
