I cannot close any IE window as the X in top right of the screen does not work when I press it. Has anybody any ideas?

what operating system and what version of IE?

I have windows XP and IE 6.

go to start>run type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /)

pop your xp disc in drive and xp will fix

I thought of doing that ,but I have a Time computer that does not come with an XP disc!

Oh heck, I hate that, when u dont get a disk.

You might be able to Uninstall IE and get a copy from the IE website.

How you ask?

Use IE first to get a copy of IE from MS website and download to your HDD, take off IE and then rerun IE setup.

Hope this helps.

Or, use either of the "Alternate fix to repair Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x for Windows XP:" near the bottom of click here

i think that sfc should still work even withought a disc if the fils are locked in the CABS

You could repair it, never though of that one, if the above fails give the reinstall a go.

You might want to also check for rouge dlls:
