icons not working correctly

  bethie 18:56 06 Mar 2007

I'm helping a friend with her first computer. The software was in it when she bought it. It's windows xp. The icons on the desktop and the control panel do not open with a left click (she is on one click) you have to right click on them and then open them. What can I do to change this? If it's already in here you will have to point me to it. Thank you.

Hi there it looks like the mouse settings are set up for a left handed person.
Go to control panel/Mouse settings and enable it for right handed people.
Hope it works.

Out of curiosity do they open with a double click?

If a program does not launch ( or indeed a folder not open with double left click ) then go to control panel and have a look at Folder options. You will find an option there to launch an item with either a single or double click.

IF the above re Setting folder options does not work then try-

Go to RUN prompt and key
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

However try my first suggestion first.
