I have an icon I can't delete

I recently reloaded windows 98 and when I was loading all my programs back on I tried to set-up an old version of freeserve by mistake.

It’s doing no harm but its annoying me. When I try to delete it says

Connection manager profile installer

Profile install--cmstp[/ni/ns/s/i] full path to profile inf>

If I try to open it says service profile is damaged re install the service profile.

I have tried all the right clicking and dragging to the bin. I have removed the old version of freeserve but I can’t delete the icon

Would appreciate any help

Cheers rick3

boot into safe mode

to do that re-start computer and start tapping the F5 key

when in safe mode delete it

Safe mode was just the same

If I right click and delete
It gives me a load of stuff about

connection manager profile install--cmstp.exe[/ni/ns/nf/s/su/i],full path to profile inf>
profile uninstall--cmstp.exe/u/is/,full path to profile inf>

think I will have to just live with it

cheers

dont live with it.......lets solve it

go to start>run and type msconfig

in the startup tab see if there is anything that could be related to this, if there is, uncheck it and reboot and see if it deletes

also hit the Ctrl Alt Delete keys and see if there any programmes running that also relate to this

Sometimes a defrag and error check removes them as well

Try these - click here

No programmes are running that relate to the icon

Have looked in startup
and run system file checker and defrag
how do I run error check? or is that file checker

I might not have given enough information I reloaded windows so on my C: drive I
now have windows (original) and windows.000 I am running off windows.000 but in the desktop folder of windows (original) was a freeserve.exe file I removed it with add/ remove programs but the icon has remained

cheers rick

and if select Properties if possible, then click and tick the "Hidden" box, Apply the change and refresh away from the icon in a blank area and it should vanish.

If I right click It gives me a load of stuff about

connection manager profile install--cmstp.exe[/ni/ns/nf/s/su/i],full path to profile inf> profile uninstall--cmstp.exe/u/is/,full path to profile inf>
