IBM Thinkpad Failure to boot from Hardrive

My friend having purchased a IBM Thinkpad 900e it has been left to me to sort it out with no instructions I want to be able to instruct it to boot from CD so that I can format the hardrive and have a fresh start with putting windows 2,000 in,

Usually it is an option in the BIOS. When you satrt the PC look for an option to enter the BIOS, sometimes its "hit del" or "F2to enter BIOS",once in the BIOS look for an option to change the srtting to boot from the CD first, save and exit the BIOS, put the CD in thr drive and reboot the PC.

I can access the BIOS but I have very little understanding of what it's trying to tell me as there are no instructions and it likes using symbols, so is there anybody who understands this system please help.
