I want to access the bios

  bigal1808 09:49 23 Jan 2010

I've got an old compaq presario c300 that was playing up.
In an earlier post on the subject, I said I was going to fit a new motherboard.
Well, I've done that, and now I want to install the os.
So, I power up, and all the lights come on properly, which they didn't do before, and a plain blue screen - no POST screen - nothing.
So, has anybody got any ideas, or are all the parts going on E-bay?

To enter the Bios it is usually. The Delete button or F1 or F2 as computer starts.

buteman - thanks - I know, and I've tried them all - but I should get the POST screen first.
I've just tried taking the battery out for 10 minutes - no difference.

Plain blue screen? Sounds like a corrupt BIOS chip.

thanks - ott_b
wouldn't I get a new bios chip on the new mobo??

Did your motherboard come with a BIOS installed? Could you use the old chip or is it soldered in? Whos manufacture if the board (try their support!)?

Yes, it would be a new chip, but I can't think of anything else but a fcorrupt BIOS that would cause a plain blue screen to appear as soon as it's switched on.

Others may have more ideas.

I don't know if the mobo came with bios installed - maybe not!
How do I tell which chip is the bios chip?
I don't know who the manufacturer is -I could try taking it all apart again and looking at the board, or I'll look at the old board.

The BIOS would have been installed on the mobo when delivered. The odds of it not being installed are pretty remote.

Should look something like this: click here

But is the replacement motherboard "new" first?
