I think my graphics card is dying!

  Flak999 17:36 02 May 2017

Over the last couple of days my Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 graphics card has been doing some strange things. The driver has stopped and recovered numerous times and I have also had black screens and had to reboot. The last time it has only loaded the Windows basic drivers and I have on screen artifacts. I have tried to run GPUZ and this wont show any of the sensor information or clock speeds!

Can I now assume the card is dead and needs replacing?

Hello Flak999.

Take a look at the BIOS and see if you can enable your motherboard's onboard graphics chip. Do it, and shut the computer down.

Then, remove your Geforce GTX 780 card and see what happens when you reboot. If the machine runs normally, it seems safe to assume that the problem lies with the Geforce.

Thanks FE I will give it a go!

Slight problem! I have an asus p8p67 pro motherboard which requires a graphics card to operate. There is no onboard graphics. But even when I was in the bios I was getting on screen artefacts. So guess the card is Dead. My next question is what card should I upgrade to? I have a corsair AX850 psu given that my old card was an Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 what do you think I should get as a replacement?

With that psu you can run pretty much what ever graphics card you want. The new nvidia 10 series are great cards. What kind of games do you play, do you use 4K? Let us know what you do with the pc and we can give you some recommendations.

My cpu is a bit long in the tooth now it's an I7 2600k so I was thinking of a GeForce GTX 1060 6 gb.. I don't think a 1070 would run to its full potential with my CPU?

I was thinking about the MSI Gaming X? Ebuyer have them for sub £300 at the moment.

Gtx 1060 3gb is about £180,I read somewhere there's little difference between the cards, few fps thats all
