I need heading on first apge only

A very small charity where I help from time to time has a “letter heading” in colour, featuring their logo, address, etc. set on a MS Word page . It prints this heading automatically when you write something on the page – eg a letter, a report, etc. And as far as I know, this happens without the heading being visible on computer monitor.
The problem is that if the letter, etc. needs more than one page, ALL the following pages also print with the heading.
How can we fix it so that the heading appears on only the first page if the printed doc runs to 2 or more pages?
Previously they used to print out a batch of “headed paper” and use that in the printer for the first page and blank paper thereafter. They changed from that deliberately – I won’t bother you with the details; only mention it to say we already know about that alternative.
I don't know how the heading was created - whether it's been done as a conventional "header" in Word, or not; and the person who set it up is no longer around to sort it out.
OS is XP.

If you insert a Section Break, each section can have its own header and footer (or can be linked to the the previous one), so that you can achieve the desired effect.

Certainly sound as if the heading is designed as a header

In Word you can create a header which is "Different First Page" - see here how to do it

thank you both - especially Sea urchin : that looks as if it should do the job; many thanks.
