I have a Graphics Card Compatibility Question

  ewilcox 01:24 08 Dec 2018

I got an EGVA 2 GB DDR3 Grqphics Card with a Geforce GT 710 chip set. It has PCI-E 2.0 support, and was advertised as an x16 card. My PC's MainBoard has a PCI-E 2.0 x 16 slot, but this slot is over twice as long as the pins on the card that plug into the slot. What I want to know is: "Is it safe to try this card out?" The card plugs into the slot ok, but the differences in lengths worries me, so I am trying to get knowledgeable information before burning the card up or something.

Any help is genuinely appreciated, Ernie

A x16 card would fill the x16 slot (89mm) your EVGA 710 is x8

Yes, you can safely put any shorter x8 (56mm) x4 (39mm) x1 (25mm) PCIe devices into a full x16 slot.
