HP850c Printer

I have an HP850c printer that I use for printing. I can use it on my laptop via my network desktop computer. However, I wanted to connect it direct to my laptop (Vista OS)so bought centronics to USB cable and cannot get the system to install the HP850c disks as they are not compatible with Vista. I have tried the setup.exe file properties to run programme in compatability mode but this option is greyed out. When I connect the printer with the USB cable I get the usual connection sound but no pop-up to say that the device is connected. Does anyone have a solution either for getting an HP850c driver for Vista; or, solution for using a centronics to USB Cable. BTW the official HP download site does not provide a solution.

So far as I can see, Vista drivers are not available for the 850C.

However, this may help: click here

Is the model number right?

It doesn`t seem to be on this list of HP products:

Thanks Pineman & provider2
The model number is correct. I too found it surprising that HP do not list the 850 series especially when the 500 series is. I have seen the thread referred to, but it does not work on my laptop - unless connecting with a centronics to USB cble is the problem.
