HP Software

I’m having a lot of trouble with HP software, specifically Document Viewer, which keeps trying to run but not loading, but which I can’t install (option greyed out as “already installed”) or uninstall (doesn’t show up as an uninstall option).

I’ve tried all the specialist sites and forums and Googled, been in the Registry, and had to do a lot of restoring as a result, without success, so this forum is my last hope.

Anybody any last ditch ideas?

There is obviously a file somewhere telling the installer that DV is already installed when it isn’t, but I can’t trace it.

Incidentally HP Support were worse than useless, simply telling me to reinstall. Up to now they have always given excellent support.

Hi, have you run CCleaner www,ccleaner.com this is usually my first line of attack. Just open CCleaner and click on Run CCleaner, without changing any of the default settings.

From memory I think that "Document Viewer" is not a stand-alone product but part of an HP Printer Software Suite,so wouldn't show in any uninstall routine.

If you are running an HP Printer couldn't you uninstall it's software , unplug the printer and reboot and then use ccleaner as mentioned above [both "Cleaner" and "Issues" tabs] to remove any last remains of the software.

You then have the option of reinstalling the printer by plugging it in and letting XP install it's own drivers.

Thanks for the suggestions, which I've tried..

Can't uninstall - no HP Software shows in any uninstall app, can't re-install - options are greyed out as "Already Installed"

Catch 22!

I'm beginning to look towards a reinstall of Windows, but am finding it difficult to accept that that is the only solution.

I've even done the unthinkable and done a file search on HP and manually deleted over 800 files - much to my surprise the computer still boots!

Just for clarification, my device is an MFD. Before removing the drivers I was able to print no problem, but scanning is impossible.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools, then look in Uninstall to get rid of any left-over elements.

Nothing relevant there, no sign of any HP software, or anything which may be confusingly named.
