HP Scanjet 4670 problem

  Dirty Dick 11:12 31 Oct 2006

I've had this scanner for some time now with no problems BUT I have just re-formatted my hard drive and now have problems. I reinstalled Windows XP Pro and reinstalled the drivers & software that came with the scanner. When I start a scan the lamp warms up and then scans across the screen, BUT when it gets to the end of the scan the lamp keeps wanting to go on, and a terrible noise comes from the scanner. I have to press the cancel button to stop the scan. Any one any ideas?

You said 'Had the scanner for some time now'
This could be a reason - Scanners made during the Win95/98/ME era did not always transfer to the NT/2000/XP system.
HP may have a driver for this machine for XP.
Try also this
Go My Computer/Help and type in the field compatibility.
Read up and apply recommendation for making old software work with XP

Already had XP Pro, then rebuilt PC, so I don't think that should be an issue. Also only actually had scanner for about 18 months. I'll yty your suggestion about HP having latest drivers.
