HP Pavilion CD drive not working

  mrsvphoto 05:52 25 Feb 2010

The cd drive on my HP Pavilioin laptop stopped working. I've tried deleting/disabling the drive and re-starting in hopes that the computer would locate the driver itself. It tried, but Bit Defender blocked access, even when it was supposedly turned off.

It sounds like a corrupted driver issue. Right-click My Computer --> Properties --> under Tasks select Device Manager -->take a look to see there are no exclamation points next to any of the devices-->under DVD/CD-ROM drives right-click the one you have installed and select uninstall -->next step is to right-click Computer or any other device and select scan for hardware changes. click here

Normally your DVD drive will be detected and the drivers reinstalled automatically as the drivers are stored in a Windows folder called driver store.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

How long I've just accepted that the cd drive was kaput?! Thank you for the instructions. Worked like a charm!
