Any other signs of life? HHH noise, fans spinning?

Are you willing to open the case and investigate further?

  Wildberry496 19:25 24 Mar 2018

If you get stuck there should be a switch at the back where the power cable goes. You can switch it off from there.

I had the exact same problem on my computer last week but it still works. I had to switch it off using the on off button on the back of the computer.

Mind you I get that many problems I cant pin it down to the one thing.

have you tried in safe mode or going into the Bios does it still not work using any of those.

  Wildberry496 12:39 25 Mar 2018

I can't get that far.any help getting there would be appreciated

  Govan1x 12:55 25 Mar 2018

Just keep tapping F8 as the computer starts would get you into safe mode. Not sure what buttons gets you into the Bios on a HP.

Think it was F10 on my old laptop,

Try Tapping F10 as the computer starts or the delete button to see if one of those will work.

Were you having any problems with the time and date before the problem started. Just wondering if a new CMOS battery might help. But only try that if nothing else works.

  Wildberry496 14:11 25 Mar 2018

Neither one worked

Maybe rdave 13 was right when he said the Motherboard might be faulty.

Any difference if you put a CD in it to see if any reaction. Nothing to loose take the CMOS battery out and change it, probably wont make any difference but will only cost a £1 at the £ shop. And of course if you do that make sure all eletrical connections are disabled
