hp deskjet 5652 printer

Boo Hoo, got a new printer for my 60th birthday today.

Rushed down the shop for a usb lead, cos its not supplied....doh.

Set it all up, put software cd in, run through setup, then up comes a window with loads of green ticks, memory etc.

But one nasty red one by the CPU.

Apparently my AMD K6 400 is a class 5 cpu and the printer needs a class 6 minimum cpu to run it.

Just looked at the small print on box "win 98 on pentium 150 MHz 32 mb ram" minimum requirements.

I have win98 on asus P5A super 7 100 MHz motherboard, but 576 mb memory so i suppose low MHz is the problem ?

I cant upgrade, it would be cheaper to get new PC,
Should be fun trying to take it back to the Spanish PC shop and explain.....doh

You could try HPackard and cry on their shoulder, they might suggest an answer which doesn't entail a trip to Spain.

I live in Spain so problem in getting it back..;-)its just the explaining that could be fun.

They have slightly different returns policy, i think...;-)

Surely they would consider a trade in for something more compatable with your PC? I presume you hablar the old espanol. Must say I envy you your choice of location. I did spend a couple of years in (whisper it) Gibraltar back in the early 50's as a member of the RN.

We are just a bit up the coast from Gib, in Fuengirola.

Not a lot of Spanish though, still learning about half speed of how they say it...;-)

Just in case anyone else has a similar problem, i took the printer and my tower into the shop, and they copied the files from the software cd to the harddrive, and the printer is now working fine..

Level 6 CPU, just another ploy by the makers to upgrade and buy the latest stuff ??¿¿??....;-)

Result !! :-)
