How/When to run AV etc

  Press Man 01:01 30 Dec 2006

Hi Guys,

Is better to run AV and Spy-ware scanners when fully booted or in safe mode? Thanks in advance.

If you are running XP then its ok really to run on full boot

I am on xp home. So there is no benefit from running in safe mode then?

There is little benefit to running the scan in safe mode. But if you find an infection, your AV software can sometimes remove it better in safe mode.
This is because the virus will not be running in safe mode and so cannot block deletion, or recreate itself.

Not really a benefit no.

However, if it finds a nasty, it could be caught in system restore.

With regards to robgf, this is partly true, but not wholly as sometimes its better for the virus to be "running" and not hidden, lurking in "safe mode"
