How will external hard drive affect file storage

  Nooka 21:50 22 Aug 2006

In a few weeks I will become a student at university, my current laptop's memory is nearly full using 31.5g of the 34g available.

I am planning on buying an external hard drive so I can fit a wealth of music and videos on my laptop (Dell INSPIRON 2200).

I am unsure how the external hard drive will affect the format of the laptops memory. Will it act like a large memory stick where I would have to access the files in a seperate window? Or will it just simply appear to expand the memory of the computer so that files from both the external and internal hard drive can be put together in the "my documents" file.

I am unsure how else to explain this so I hope that you understand my query. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

And it will be separate from My Documents.
