How to test hard drive help

  Sneeze1 09:51 08 Nov 2014

Hi I'm using windows 7 and sometimes when I use Chrome or Explorer to visit Facebook, my pc will work for a while then become sluggish and then freeze. yesterday was a nightmare and I couldn't get the cursor to move or anything, so I had to reboot the tower. Now i am worried I may have damaged the hard drive, is there a free tool or something that can test whether the hard drive is wearing out etc?

Many thanks.

there are tools built into windows - plus the manufactures do their own tools

Do you know the make of drive? - device manager will tell you eg toshiba, seagate, WD (western digital)

you can do a disk check from command prompt, To find and repair errors on drive C, use this command:

chkdsk /f C:

Why do you think you may have damaged the hard drive? What symptoms make you believe that? What you've described sounds like a perfectly normal thing to do. The only thing that may have happened is that you have lost any personal stuff you were working on and hadn't saved, and a small chance that one or two things may have got corrupted - but those will mostly fix themselves on reboot.
