How to solve 'Couldn't load XPCOM'

  exdragon 16:49 30 Oct 2014

Hi - this message appeared on the desktop this morning when I tried to open Firefox. There are lots of solutions when I google it, but they are very confusing and seem to give a variety of replies about which files/folders to uninstall, remove or rename.

Can anyone point me in the direction of an idiot's guide on what to do? I didn't have sync turned on (but I do now on the laptop) so I assume if I log in on the desktop with my account details, my bookmarks etc will reappear. Hopefully.

download and reinstall it into the same directory as it is in now

this will replace the missing / corrupt files but keep all your profiles favourites etc.

One suggestion is to download firefox again and install 'over the top'. Use another browser to download.

Thanks, chaps, I'll give it a go if it's as easy as that. I thought I remembered seeing something somewhere that, if you didn't remove some file or other, a message about a profile being in use appeared.

Well, that seems to have worked - many thanks.
