how to repair a windows 2000 pc

  howard64 19:24 18 Feb 2010

I have been altering the users on a w2k pc and after the last alteration I made to the registry winlogon it now will not accept any users or even the administrator. The prog seems to load ok but I cannot log on. Does anyone know how to get in under these conditions. I can get to safe mode but that also will not accept any logon. I do not have any w2k disks. The last good logon does not accept any users either.

Try a repair click here or perhaps the MS Windows Registry Repair Utility would be better click here.

For the future, backup the Registry before you make any changes. At least then you can recover to the point at which you knew everything was working.

The creation of an Emergency Repair Disk may also be useful click here

as I cannot get past the login screen it looks as though I am going to have to format and install a new op sys. Thanks for the suggestions.

You could do worse than installing Ubunta click here

You can make a bootup disc with it (if you've got a working machine), format and install. Then you can dual boot when and if you get a windows os.
