How to remove Dual Boot information

  [email protected] 17:48 22 Mar 2010

XP Home.
When repairing the boot.ini using the Repair Console, at the prompt to enter the name of the OS for repair I entered Windows XP Home when I should have entered Microsoft Windows XP Edition Familiale (it's French).
Problem now is when booting up I am presented with the option of booting one or the other, as though dual booting has been set up :-(
How can I remove the incorrect entry so it boots normally?

Open your boot.ini file with notepad

copy and paste it here so we can see it.

[boot loader]
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Edition Familiale" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

I suspect what you need is the above, if so rename yor boot.ini to boot.old

copy and paste the above to notepad and save as boot.ini to c:\

Thanks Fruit Bat /\0/\.
It's still "sfc'ing" so I'll look at it later.

Well, my question was academic as it hasn't resolved my problem:

I think it's time for the Repair Install.
You were right Fruit Bat /\0/\. The boot.ini I needed was as you suspected.
The annoying thing with the computer problem is it's not consistent. One day it boots properly then the next it won't and often it boots properly after the 2nd/3rd attempt but I won't continue the problem in this thread which I will no regard as closed. Thanks.
