how to open firewall ports on xp?

hi, my friend cannot get online properly on his xp based pc,
the error says that his firewall ports need to be opened because all he gets is limited connectivety or no conectivety, how do you open these ports?

XP firewall is wore than rubbish as it only blocks incoming not outgoing.

Better off switching it off and downloading a decent firewall click here

ok he did a network diagnostic and the error came up unable to make HTTPS connection, how does he resolve this, not sure which ports

http should be open by default on pot 80

https port 443 if my memory serves me correct again should be a default on xp firewall

but as per Fruit Bat /\0/\ post you may be better off getting a third part firewall and turning xp firewall off cant remember off hand how to change xp firewall been on 7 since beta but can look into it if you wish to persist with xp firewall post back and let me know

it turns out it was his ethernet cable from his router to his pc, replaced cable now all is fine.
