How to interpret an event log entry.

If you can boot into safe mode, do so...then go to your device manager...open the "computer" tab, you'll see acpi compliant blah blah...select properties...click on the driver tab...then select the "roll back" driver option....when you get to the list of devices, select "standard PC"...

this will,of course, take away all of your cool power saving features...but I've tried it on two XP systems that were experiencing random hard lockups, and once I changed from ACPI compliant.... to Standard PC in the device manager...the machines never locked up again for a memory read error...
