how to identify soundcard advice please

just reinstalled xp pro..for some reason this time no sound...xp did not pick it up, there is nothing in writing on card,,and in control panel yellow astericks on multimedia audio controller tried search on net nothing found,thanks for looking

You may have onboard Sound, If you have, Drivers come with a Motherboard CD, or can be had at the Motherboard Site.

Frankie,have you updated the microsoft updates since reinstall ?

Without knowing your sound card,i should mention MS have released an update that conflicts with Realtec sound cards...though this may not apply to you.There is a fix/patch click here

Follow Woodchips advice and if no joy with Belarc try Everesthome click here

Following up on skidzy, It's not a good idea to let Microsoft load drivers for Hardware, as it as been known to create problems

You can also restore old Drivers in Device Manager
