how hot should my amd chip be?

I have an amd 1700+ chip, what is the recommended operating temp? mine runs at 55-60°C. Its not overclocked. should i think about more cooling?

AMD's do tend to run hot. My XP2800 has a Zalman 5100Cu cooler and seems to run around 50-55C when I've been playing games. Extra cooling won't hurt, but it you're using the standard AMD heatsink/fan the most effective way is to upgrade the CPU cooler, as case fans will mainly lower the overall system temp and not the CPU as much.

The cooler your CPU is, the better. Average for your chip would be around 50-55 degrees. AMD state a max. temp. for your Chip of 90 degrees. j.

I would say 55-60C is on the high side even under load for a standard AMD 1700+ chip.
My 2500+ chip mildly overclocked has never touched 50C under load. My only mod has been to fit a Global Win copper heatsink and fan. Perhaps a new heatsink and fan might be a good idea.

I use a Zalman flower heatsink on my XP1700+ and cpu temp is never above 39'c and it's ver quiet.
Would recommend you try one.
