My wife is trying to compose some emails on her laptop but for some reason the shift key does not work so she is unable to put the @ sign in her email address and cannot enter any symbol which needs the shift key to get it anybody got any ideas. She is using XP

Jock1e - How will that help if the shift key isn't working?

Make and model of laptop?

Can you try and external keyboard to see if it works?

Does caps lock work?

Check num lock is not on.

Use character map to find @.

You may be able to type the @ using caps lock but suggest that you try and external keyboard as it seems that your keyboard has a defect.

How do you type the @ sign using cap lock and what about the + £ and & signs

It may very well be a hardware problem but to get the job done for now:

Start-Accessories-Ease of Access-On Screen Keyboard
